Morocco: "Daughters of the Souk"

Daughters of the Souk

Tamsult, an old souk, that had just gone out of business in the '80s, at 1200 mt of altitude. This desolated place is known by all as the crossroads for sex. A group of sex workers occupy the walled and abandoned boutiques. Most of the whores, in the maroccan mountains, live around souks, the main places for any kind of business..January 2009, Tamsult, Anti-Atlas mountains, Morocco.....The misery of a square bare, dirt, dotted with broken glass and cans, brick structures close the doors of old shops, stray dogs and the ghosts of women who inhabit it. Are Taidit, are "bitches", are prostitutes and are the renters of an old souk abandoned at 1200 meters in the heart of the Anti-Atlas Mountains of Morocco. The time when the market was full of merchants and sellers gave place to the vendors of their own bodies...To protect the identities of the recorded subjects names are fictional.
