Jah Bless Rastas

M.P. is a young Rasta of 23 years old. He lives in a single room indipendent house. In 2002 he left the Barbados through the repatriation programme organized by the Twelve Tribe of Israel, one of the major Rastafarian groups. In the village there are about 300 families of Caribbean origin. Shashemene, south Ethiopia, on friday, March 21 2008....."Shashamene or Shashemene (ethiopian name), located in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia, is "the place", the ancestral homeland. For the whole Rastafarians repatriation to Africa or to Zion or to the Promise Land is the first goal. Rastas assert that "Mount Zion" is a place promised by Jah and they claim themselves to represent the real Children of Israel in modern times. During the last years of the 40's, Emperor Haile Selassie I, considerated from that movement incarnation of God, donated 500 acres of his private land to members and other settlers from Jamaica including other parts of the Caribbean..The Rastafarian settlement in Shashamane was recently reported to exceed two hundred families. In January 2007 it organized an exhibition and a bazaar in the city. It was also reported recently prior to the Ethiopian Millennium that various pro-Ethiopian World Federation groups, consisting of indigenious Ethiopians and Rastafarians, have given support to one of many five year plans proposed for sustainable development of Shashamene, Ethiopia."
